We lovingly finish all but one of our wood-based products by hand, using a blend of plant-based oils and waxes. This process, though simple, requires time and dedication. We begin by taking a small rag, dipping it in oil, and applying it to the wood surface in circular strokes, ensuring every spot is meticulously covered. For many of us, this step is the most gratifying part of the manufacturing journey, as it reveals the true beauty of the wood after all the chopping, shaping, and sanding.
Once the wood is fully covered, we use a clean rag to wipe away any excess oil, then set the product aside to dry for 24 hours. In traditional mass production, the norm is to use a HVLP sprayer to apply a varnish finish, which is faster and easier. So, why do we choose to do it by hand?
We do this because we believe in honoring the natural origins of the wood. Instead of simply coating the exterior with a polymerized resin, our natural oil penetrates deep into the wood, enhancing its inherent beauty and texture. Hand-finishing imbues each piece with a unique character and warmth that machine processes simply cannot replicate. Moreover, unlike clear coats, our finish can be easily repaired and refreshed with a bit of sandpaper and oil. This method aligns perfectly with our small batch production, allowing us to maintain the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship.
By dedicating ourselves to this meticulous process, we not only preserve the wood's natural elegance but also create products that carry the essence of our craftsmanship. Every stroke of oil is a testament to our commitment to excellence, transforming each piece into a work of art that radiates warmth and authenticity.
